Description

Reassignment of students to schools within the county have been approved by the administration or recommended by the Student Reassignment Appeal Board, in accordance with policies of the School Board.  They are presented for formal ratification.

GENERAL ITEMS

9. APPROVAL OF AMENDMENT TO LINEAR PARK PROJECT AGREEMENT AND PEDESTRIAN AGREEMENT WITH CITY OF VENICE AND VENICE AREA BEAUTIFICATION, INC.
Description

The School Board, the City of Venice and Venice Area Beautification, Inc. previously entered into an agreement on February 1, 2000 regarding a Linear Park Project on the campus of Venice High School. The School Board granted a non-exclusive easement to the City of Venice at that time for the Linear Park.  Due to the new campus design for the rebuild of Venice High School, the area designated for the Linear Park on the southern end of the campus needs to be amended. The sketch and description attached to the original agreement needed to be amended to reflect the new area of the Linear Park.



Recommendation

That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Amendment to the Linear Park Project Agreement and approve the Pedestrian Easement with the City of Venice as presented.

AGREEMENTS/CONTRACTS

10. AGREEMENT BETWEEN BAY AREA YOUTH SERVICES, INC. AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description

This agreement provides a delinquency program for students identified as at-risk to becoming habitual juvenile offenders.



Recommendation
That the agreement between Bay Area Youth Services, Inc. and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.

11. AGREEMENT BETWEEN BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF THE SUNCOAST AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description

This is a long standing agreement between Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, to provide one-to-one mentoring in our schools.



Recommendation

That the agreement for mentoring services between Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.

12. AGREEMENT BETWEEN COASTAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE, INC. "FAMILY LIFE INTERVENTION PROGRAM" AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description

Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc., "Family Life Program," will provide an early prevention program for at-risk youth in Sarasota County.  Services are provided at mutually agreed upon school locations at no cost to the district and transportation will be provided by Coastal if needed.



Recommendation
That the agreement between Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc., "Family Life Intervention Program," and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.

13. AGREEMENT BETWEEN FRIENDSHIP VOLUNTEER CENTER AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description
Friendship Volunteer Center will provide one-to-one mentoring to selected students.

That the agreement between Friendship Volunteer Center and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.

14. AGREEMENT BETWEEN GIRLS INC. AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, FOR CAREER COUNSELING SERVICES
Description
This is a long standing agreement between Girls Inc. and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, to provide research-based, age-appropriate programs to school age girls throughout Sarasota County during and after school.

Recommendation

That the agreement between Girls Inc. and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, for career counseling be approved as presented.

15. AGREEMENT BETWEEN TAKE STOCK IN CHILDREN AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description
This agreement between Take Stock in Children and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, provides mentoring and potential college and vocational scholarships to selected students.

Recommendation

16. AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE COMMUNITY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OF SARASOTA COUNTY AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description
This agreement between the Community Youth Development of Sarasota County and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, provides training and opportunities for Sarasota County high school students to develop leadership skills.

Recommendation
That the agreement between the Community Youth Development of Sarasota County and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.

17. AFFILIATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CAT HOSPITAL OF SARASOTA AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description

The School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, desires to provide to its students a clinical learning experience through the application of knowledge and clinical skills in actual patient-centered situations in a health care facility.  The Cat Hospital of Sarasota Health Care Facility has agreed to make its facility available for such purposes.



Recommendation
That the Affiliation Agreement between the Cat Hospital of Sarasota and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved.

18. TERMINATION OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA AND AMI KIDS INFINITY SARASOTA
Description
Contracted services for the alternative school AMI Kids Infinity will not be continued.  For continuity of programming and services, middle and high school alternative programs (North County) are to be housed at one school site, eliminating the need for a separate site for a middle school only program.

Recommendation

That the School Board of Sarasota County terminate the agreement with AMI Kids Infinity Sarasota.

19. APPROVAL OF THE FINANCIAL CONTRACT BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA AND THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS (NORTH)
Description
This contract is to pay for services to be provided for 21st CCLC summer programs at Emma E. Booker, Gocio, Alta Vista, Roy McBean Boys and Girls Club, June 14 - July 1, 2010, with an additional site at the North Sarasota Library being held July 12-29, 2010. Contracted amount includes salaries, program supplies, and field trip expenses. 

Recommendation
That the contract for payment of services to provide 21st CCLC summer programs be approved as presented.

EXPULSIONS

20. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 10-420
Description

The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 10-420, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On April 15, 2010, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 10-420, violated School Board Policy 5.322, Prohibition Against Use, Sale, or Possession of Alcohol or Drugs.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 15, 2011.



Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 10-420, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2009-2010 academic year. the 2010 summer session, and the entire 2010-2011 academic year.

21. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 10-334
Description

The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 10-334, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On February 26, 2010, the student listed in Case No. 10-334, violated School Board Policy 5.32, Zero Tolerance(1)(h), Possession or Sale of any Firearm, Weapon or Other Prohibited Articles, and (1)(j), Possession, Use, or Sale of Controlled Substances; School Board Policy y 5.321, Possession of Weapons and other Prohibited Articles; and School Board Policy 5.322, Prohibition Against Use, Sale, or Possession of Alcohol or Drugs.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 15, 2011.

 



Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 10-334, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2009-2010 academic year, the 2010 summer session and the entire 2010-2011 academic year.

22. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 10-024
Description
The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 10-024, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On September 16, 2009, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 10-024, violated School Board Policy 5.322, Prohibition Against Use, Sale, or Possession of Alcohol or Drugs or Substances Held Out to Be or Represented to Be Drugs.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 4, 2010.

Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07 (1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 10-024, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately until June 4 of the 2009-2010 academic year.

Description

The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 10-415, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On April 13, 2010, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 10-415, violated School Board Policy, 5.322, Prohibition Against Use, Sale, or Possession of Alcohol or Drugs.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 4, 2011.



Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 10-415, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2009-2010 academic year, the 2010 summer session, and the entire 2010-2011 academic year.

That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 10-440, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2009-2010 academic year, the 2010 summer session, and the entire 2010-2011 academic year.

Description
The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 10-477, violated School Board Policy 5.34(1)(d), Grand Theft.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 10, 2011.

That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, and the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 10-477, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2009-2010 academic year, the 2010 summer session, and the entire 2010-2011 academic year.

27. APPROVAL OF THE DELETION FOR DEMOLITION OF PORTABLE #99-398 AT VENICE HIGH SCHOOL
Description
The Long Range Planning office has determined that this relocatable classroom is no longer needed by the district. The specified portable recommended for deletion has been inspected by Construction Services and Facilities Services staff and is deemed to no longer be economical to maintain or renovate. This portable is currently being utilized for the purpose as cited on the enclosure. Funds for demolition are available in the capital projects account.

Recommendation
That the deletion of portable #99-398 at Venice High School from the F.I.S.H. inventory for demolition be approved as presented.

Description

30. APPROVAL OF THE DELETION FOR DEMOLITION OF PORTABLE #99-460 IN LIEU OF #99-395 AT TOLEDO BLADE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description
This is a corrective item. Portable #99-395 was incorrectly included in the list on a memorandum dated 4/5/2010.  Portable #99-460 was incorrectly not included in the list on this memorandum. This memorandum was the accompanying enclosure for Item #30 on the 4/20/2010 Board agenda.

Recommendation
That the deletion of portable #99-460 at Toledo Blade Elementary School from the F.I.S.H. inventory for demolition be approved as presented and that the deletion of portable #99-395 be rescinded.

33. AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE JEWISH FAMILY AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA
Description
This agreement provides services to students at McIntosh Middle School, Heron Creek Middle School and Emma E. Booker Elementary under the Challenge to Change/Safe to Out-of-School Suspension Program.  It is a therapeutic program which incorporates school support to at-risk youth ages 5-15.

Recommendation
That the agreement between Jewish Family & Children's Services and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, be approved as presented.
